Scrap Management!

I bet you all have bags like this and then some.   I always remember that my tiny scraps cost just as much as my yardage.  I hate wasting so I have come up with a few ideas that will use those tiny scraps.
I use 1/2" hexagon papers for the teeny tiny scraps.  I don't think I will go smaller than this.  I am Ok with throwing a scrap away that does not accommodate a 1/2 inch hexagon.  I prepped a whole bunch of these beauties and have begun basting them to add to my box.
These are going to be made up into a quilt.  I have a pretty box which I throw them in and they are ready to go when I think I have enough of a variety for a scrappy quilt.  There are hundreds in the box. For somewhat bigger scraps I have another scrappy project on the go.  I will show that next time.  I encourage you to come up with inventive ways to use your scraps.  They are precious too.

  7. Such a cute way to store all those little hexies!
Lately I've been saving all the teenie scraps that result from trimming the fabrics for my 3/8 inch hexies. I plan to use them as stuffing for a pin cushion some day!

  8. What a gorgeous box of hexies! I assume that you're glue basting (based on what I see in the first picture)? What pattern are you going to use for your hexie quilt?

  9. I try to cut scraps as I go - altho I admit there is a pile to deal with from yesterday. I generally cut my scraps into strips or squares for my scrap bins...then they are ready when I want to start a project. Great idea to also make hexies with the smaller scraps. I am currently collecting 3/4" hexies made in purple for a project and they are in a an old blue ball jar next to a lamp. It just sparkles! I think I'll also copy your idea for the smaller scraps...now if I could just find my 1/2" hexie papers that I swear I bought a while ago...
