Little Hearts!

I went to a quilt show in Manchester in November last year.  I purchased a couple of little kits which I thought were so darling.  Not wanting to get them lost in a pile or a box, I thought it would be good to tackle the little heart project as it is almost February.  The Quilt is made from a mini charm or Moda candy.  20 light fabrics for the hearts and 20 darks for the background.  I ironed the hearts to fusible web and machine blanket stitched around the hearts.
They are so pretty!  I have to apologize about the orientation of the photo's.  I could not find where to rotate them.
Here is a picture of the quilt oriented the right way!  It is just darling and I love the colors they put in the kit.  I believe it to be a Barbara Brackman line of fabric.
A few evenings ago we had the most beautiful sunset.  That little orange cloud in the center was VERY orange in reality.  It looked like a little fire ball.  Just beautiful.  I have learned that the camera never really does it justice.  However, I will still run out there with my camera.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and thank you for stopping by!

Valentines Hexagon Centerpiece!

A few days ago I blogged about a little bag I found with pieces in it to make a centerpiece for Valentines day!  I am happy to report that I can cross this particular UFO off the list!  It is one of my favorite centerpiece patterns (from a Quilts and More Fall Magazine from a few years ago) and I now have one for every season.  It is such a good size for our kitchen table.
I also made some mug rugs to match.  This fabric is so fun.  I used Sue Daly's hexagon templates for the mug rugs.  They work up so easily.
I had fun quilting these.  A few got hearts quilted onto them and this one got a bit of cursive "Love" quilted into it.  I put them on the table yesterday and immediately enjoyed a cup of tea using one of the mug rugs.  Works like a champ!

A Little Bag of Hexies!

I seem to happen upon things when I am hunting for something else.  I came across this little ziploc with some hexies in it.  I remember that it was supposed to become a centerpiece many moons ago.  It is a Valentines project judging by the fabric.  Excellent timing I would say!
I took the contents out of the baggie and realized that I had not even cut out all the required pieces.  By some small miracle I knew exactly where the fabric was!  So I got stuck in and cut out the rest of the pieces.
I have 6 hexies basted which means I have 14 left to baste and then stitch them all together.  It is one of my favorite patterns for a centerpiece.  I think I did not have all of them basted as I wanted to embroider some of them... - no, I just want to get them done!  Watch this space.  In a couple of days I will have the project completed and that will be my first UFO of the year.  Thanks for stopping by to visit.

Hexies and Allietare!

Hello sweet people.  I have had some time to sew over the past couple of days.  I have been working like a fiend building units for Allietare, Bonnie Hunters mystery quilt for 2015.  It has been a fun one to work on but SO MANY PIECES!  I have made all the units now and am stitching the blocks together.  I really like how it is turning out.

I have also made my third hexie for Quilts on the Go - Katja Marek's Sew Along from her book, The New Hexagon.  I am in love with making these.  I have not done the big stitching in the sashing yet as I am trying to decide which thread to use.  But these are really addictive to make.

Here are the first seven blocks of Allietare laid out with the corner and setting triangles.  The neutral bits poking out will be trimmed off once the quilt is stitched together.  I will probably play with the placement a bit more once all the blocks are done.  I just could not wait to see what it would look like.   It is rainy and dreary here today - a perfect sewing room day.  I hope you got a chance to sew!

A New Year, a New Start!

Happy 2016 friends!  I don't know about you, but I really like the idea of a new year.  It's a time to set fresh goals for a whole pristine year ahead.  You get to start over and try again.  We have a tradition on New Years Eve.  The whole family sits down and formulates their goals for the new year.  We report back on our goals from last year and our accomplishments.  We set our new goals and tell one another what they are.  Then we each get a family assigned goal.  Sometimes it is an all you can eat character assassination but there is alot of laughing and loud discussion.  When you speak your goals out loud and others hear what they are, you seem to become a bit more serious about achieving them.

I have been saving my ball bands from the entire year.  At the end of this year I worked out how many yards of yarn I have crocheted/ knitted in 2015.  Turns out it is 11.1 Miles!  Not bad - that's a few afghans I would say!
I am taking part in Katja Marek's Quilts on the Go Hexie Quilt.  I have completed two of these hexies and we have four to make this month.
My sweet son made this amazing metal rose for me.  He is such a talented and creative man.  My kids are all artistic and I absolutely love watching them create beautiful things.  It makes my heart sing that they love the creative process.
