This And That!

I finished a project that I started in the summer.   This delightful pattern is one of the 5 Fat Quarter patterns published by Jedicraftgirl and Gigisthimble this year.  I loved the patriotic pineapples and simply had to make one.  I made a table runner using the same pattern.

I finish a top, make the binding and get the backing sorted out and then I hang it on a hanger in the "to be quilted" pile.  Sometimes this leads to quilt tops not being quilted for ages.  I really wanted to get this one quilted as I had the perfect place to hang it.  So, it jumped ahead in the queue!

My dear friend Joy and I attended Stitchfest Tx this July.  We give each other a gift every day of the retreat.  This sweet kit is one of my lovely gifts and I felt like a quick project one afternoon and decided this would be perfect.  Isn't it sweet?

Sarah over at Sarah Did It! is hosting a temperature afghan sew along.  I am still playing catch up because I was late to the party, but here is my end of August block.

I write the date and the average temperature for the week on the stem.

Meanwhile, fall is sort of happening outside.  These Maples border our property and are dressed in their fall finest.  So pretty.

I have a lily which seems to be a bit confused about the seasons.  I'll take it though as there are not too many flowers around at the moment.

I hope you are all having a wonderful week and getting some sewing done.

Hexie Temperature Quilt!

started a hexagon temperature quilt in the summer of this year.  I wanted to join in the fun but have so many UFO'S that I did not start at the same time as everyone else.  I did write down the temperatures......just in case, and am I glad I did.  I have recently finished the top of a plain hexie rosette quilt so I knew I wanted to do something different with my rosettes.  I decided on on point flowers.

I am using grey neutral fabrics for the background blocks which I randomly decided would be cut at 8.5".

I am also writing the date of the flower on the stem along with the average temperature for the week in parenthesis.

Of course I am playing catch-up on this project, but I am thoroughly enjoying the process of making cute flowers.
Thank you for visiting.

A Queen Size Finish!

My son moved to an apartment to start his working career down in Charleston.  Furniture was procured and a queen size bed arrived.  Of course Momma was comissioned to make a quilt for said bed!

The boy loves anything patriotic so I made a flag quilt with pinwheels as setting squares.

Of course it got quilted within an inch of it's life.  I free motion quilted it on my domestic sewing machine.

I had so much fun coming up with designs for the red stripes in the flags.  All the white stripes got the same figure eight treatment.  Loopy meander in the sashing.

I hope you can see some of the quilting in the red stripes.

I made two matching pillowcases for the bed.  Cuff = border fabric, accent fabric = binding and the main body of the pillowcase is the same as the sashing strips.

I had so much fun doing this quilt.  It arrives at my sons place on Saturday and I can't wait to see how it looks on his bed.
Thank you for stopping by to visit.
