Chevron Quilt from Layer Cake

Hello folks!  I am sharing a tutorial on how to make a chevron quilt using a layer cake and three and a half yards of backing fabric.  Cut your backing fabric into as many 10" squares as the number of layer cake squares you will be using!  I used the entire layer cake for this project.   Place them one layer cake square and one backing square right sides together.  Pin them at the corners and stitch around the entire perimeter of the square with a 1/4" seam allowance.

Once you have done this, cut your squares across both diagonals.  Iron open.  This gives you a half square triangle.
Lay your blocks into a pleasing chevron design and stitch the blocks into rows and then the rows into a completed quilt.  Enjoy!

This is a big quilt.  Spot the kitty at the bottom of the completed quilt to give you an idea of how big it is.

  1. The Top is beautiful.

    Greetings, Manuela

  2. Nice way to make a cheron quilt. Thanks for the how-to. I wandered onto your blog looking for a quilty friend who also has a blog with this name and am enjoying your quilts. I have become a follower so I can follow the thread trail back ... have a happy quilty day ... :) Pat
